Swimming Pool:

The town pool is an indoor, 8 lane, 25 yard competition quality pool.

Pool Party Rental Information

 
The Orange Town Pool is available to rent for parties on Saturday from 5:00pm to 6:00pm, Sunday from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Reservations are made on a first come-first served basis.   All attendees will take a swim test at the start of the party.  Any child unable to complete one full length of the pool, unassisted, without stopping, will not be allowed in the water without a parent or guardian in the water with them at all times. The lobby is also available for one hour after the swimming. A refundable deposit is required for the lobby and will be returned if the area is properly cleaned after the party. POOL CLOSES AUGUST 13 FOR MAINTENANCE


At times during the schedule there are programmed activities that may prohibit the use of certain areas of the pool. Specific restrictions can be requested at the Pool, at 203-891-4761.


Tennis Courts
The location to play tennis in Orange is at High Plains Community Center. There are 2 hard-courts at this location. The courts are reserved from April through September, in the Park and Recreation office, or by calling (203)891-4790. Play is scheduled on a first come-first served basis and reservations have priority over drop ins. The courts can be reserved for 1 hour to play singles, or 2 hours for doubles play You may have only 2 reservations on file at any time.



Soccer Fields
There are 4 soccer fields located at Fred Wolfe Park on Hollow Road. These fields are reserved through the Orange Soccer Association. Drop in play is not allowed. 

There is also 1 field available at Peck Place School, 2 fields at High Plains Community Center, and 1 field at Mary L. Tracy School. These fields may be reserved at the Park and Recreation Office or by calling (203)891-4790.



Ice Skating
Wrights Pond is monitored by the Park and Recreation Department for ice safety. The ice is checked daily and there are signs posted indicating when it is safe to skate.

Snow removal equipment, other than a shovel, is not allowed on the rink.



Nature Trails
There are 5 nature trail sites in Orange. They are open, without permits required, from dawn to dusk, everyday. Trail locations are; High Plains Community Center, the Paul Ode trails, the Housatonic Overlook at Tucker's Ridge, Fred Wolfe Park Trails on Hollow Road,the Race Brook Tract on Race Brook Road and at Camp Cedarcrest on Mapledale Road. Directions and maps are available at the Park and Recreation office.



Basketball 
There are 2 outdoor, unlit basketball courts at the High Plains Community Center. They are available on a first come - first served basis. Balls must be provided by players.



Baseball/ Softball Fields
The softball and baseball complex, located at Old Tavern Road park, is available only through reservations from the Little League Association. Drop-in play is not allowed on these fields.

There are additional fields available around town; there are 3 fields at High Plains Community Center, 2 fields at Mary L Tracy School, 1 at Race Brook school, 1 at Peck Place School and 1 at Turkey Hill School. These fields may be reserved at the Park and Recreation office or by calling (203)891-4790. No team may have more than 2 current reservations at a time.



Playgrounds / Playroom
The Mary L. Tracy Playground is located behind Town Hall on Tyler City Road. It is open Monday through Friday (when school is in session) from 2:00pm-dusk, Saturday and Sunday and non-school days from dawn to dusk.

The High Plains Tot Lot is located at the Community Center and is open Monday through Friday 2:00pm-dusk and all day on Saturday and Sunday. During the summer the Tot Lot is not open during the week (M-F)due to summer camp activities.

There are also playgrounds located at each of the elementary schools in Town. They are unavailable during the school day.

The Toddler Playroom is located at the High Plains Community Center in rooms 7 and 9.The playroom is designed and equiped for children ages 6 months to 4 years old. There are arts and craft supplies, games, ride-on toys and imaginative play areas to be used in an unstructured environment. The Playroom also offers special events and holiday activities. Membership is required to use the rooms and can be purchased at the Park and Recreation office.



Picnic Areas
There are 2 pavilions located at the High Plains Community Center. The pavilions have electricity and lighting available.They can be reserved at the Park and Recreation office on a first come-first serve basis. Refundable deposit is required.

Fitness Center
The Orange Fitness Center is located in the High Plains Community Center across from the Park and Recreation office. The room is furnished with a variety of equipment designed to meet all your fitness needs. The cardiovascular equipment includes 5 stationary bikes, 2 rowing machines, an elliptical machine, 2 stair climbers and 4 treadmills. The Fitness Center is fully stocked with over 900 pounds of Olympic free weights and dumbbells ranging in weight from 1 to 90 pounds. There is a squat rack, a smith machine, cable row/lat pull down machine, a hyperextension machine, a free standing leg press, an abdominal machine, Cybex torso rotation machine, and three adjustable benches for incline lifting and curls. The center also features strength training equipment including an eight station Universal Gym with a leg press, military press, bench press, lateral station, hip flexor station, abdominal board, dip station and a chin-up station.

Rules

  • Foul, inappropriate language and/or horseplay is not allowed.
  • Chalk is not permitted.
  • Weights must be put away after use. Equipment must be used properly and all damage must be reported immediately to the Park and Recreation office. NO banging or dropping weights on the floor!
  • Failure to abide by these rules may result in suspension.

Training
Trainer Joe Sartarelli, instructor at the Orange Fitness Center, is available for free weight and fitness training for men and women on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 am to 2 pm. To schedule an appointment or for more information, please call the office at 203-891-4790..

Membership Rules
All members must complete a new application every year before they can use the Fitness Center. All new members must complete an orientation with one of the Fitness Center staff members before using the facility.

Disc Golf 
The new course features 9 holes and is located off of the Paul Ode Trail here at High Plains. The entrance is located behind the rear Pavilion. Maps and Discs will be available in the Park and Recreation office. 



Walking / Jogging Track
High Plains Community Center has a graded stone-dust finished walking track 4/10 of a mile long. It is located around the upper fairgrounds where the gazebo is located. The track is available from dawn to dusk for walking or running. Bicycles are not allowed on the track and dogs must be leashed. There are dog-waste stations located around the track.
