The Town of Orange 2017-2018 mil rate is 33.28.
If you are a resident for ten consecutive years or more and 65 years or older and/or totally disabled (with proof), the town offers the Senior Tax Stabilization Program. You qualify if you have an adjusted gross income of $52,000 or less. This application can be obtained from February to May 15 every year. Connecticut also offers tax relief for the elderly and totally disabled. The maximum income levels for the 2017 grand list were $43,000 (married) and $35,300 (single). Income includes wages, tips, salaries, interest, dividends (either taxable or exempt), and gross social security payments received during the 2016 calendar year. If you filed or intend to file a 2016 income tax return, we will need a copy. We also need a copy of you and your spouse’s (if applicable) Form SSA 1099, the statement of Social Security payments received during the 2016 calendar year. You must cancel your license plates online or in person at a nearby DMV office. You will receive a receipt for your plate return. You will be required to secure a permit from the Fire Marshal's Office when:
1. You are planning on any new commercial construction or renovations to an existing commercial building;
2. If you would like have a campfire;
3. If you operate a facility that requires a State of Connecticut permit such as a liquor license or a daycare facility;
4. If you're not sure, call the office and we will clarify.

Yes. The Highway Department will pick up roadkill from town-maintained roads. Please call 203-891-4775 to report. Please be prepared to give detailed information such as address and type of roadkill. Please note we do not collect birds, squirrels or rabbits.

To report a tree trimming or other power line problem, please call UI at 1-800-7-CALL-UI (1-800-722-5584). When you call, please have the following information ready:
Important: It is vital that you DO NOT attempt to trim the tree yourself. Serious injury or death could result.
If electrical wires are on the ground or dangling, STOP! Call 911 immediately! Assume the wires are live. Keep pets and children at a safe distance. Do NOT drive over wires! Never attempt to move tree limbs entangled in electrical wires. The Orange Police Department will contact UI and dispatch a Highway crew to safeguard the dangerous situation until UI can arrive to make repairs.
Please contact the Highway Department a 203-891-4775 to report a branch or tree into the roadway.
Call 911 if wires are involved! Stand back and keep children and pets away. Do not drive over wires. Never attempt to clear road of tree branches when wires are entangled due to electrocution risk.
Call the Highway Department 203-891-4775 to report the situation. Highway will dispatch a crew to cut/trim back. Or, Highway may contact the homeowner to give them an opportunity to trim back. If not done to satisfaction Highway Department reserves the right to open the sight line properly.

With over 110 miles of roads to clear the plow trucks must first open primary roads, then secondary roads and finally tertiary roads (i.e., cul-de-sacs and lesser traveled roads). Plows open roadways with one pass on each side of road, return to open roads wider, and then they push back. Please wait until all plowing is complete before clearing your driveway. If, after all plowing is complete you have a situation that requires more attention, then call our office at 203-891-4775 to ask. We cannot relocate our plows to accommodate individual requests. If you have a life threatening emergency health situation call 911! Police will contact Highway. Arrangements will be made to provide assistance in opening roadways in emergency situations.

As of October 1, 2009 a Marriage License in the State of Connecticut can only be obtained from the town of occurrence. The marriage MUST be performed in the town indicated on the license.
It is strongly suggested you call ahead with the date and time you wish to come in to ensure there is a Registrar of Vital Records available in the office to execute the license.
To obtain a Marriage License, both parties must appear in person at the same time to process your License.If you are unable to be in our office during processing hours, you must contact us to see if other arrangements can be made.
As of October 1, 2003, NO blood test is necessary.
The license is valid for 65 days from the date of application and can be used immediately after obtaining it.
The fee for obtaining a Marriage License in the State of Connecticut is $50.00. Payment method is cash or check (payable to Town of Orange)
Additionally, at the time you obtain your license in Orange, CT we offer you the opportunity to pay for a certified copy of the license which will automatically be sent to you once we have received the original back from the officiator. The current fee for a certified copy of a vital record is $20.
Sec. 46b-22. (Formerly Sec. 46-3). Who may join persons in marriage. Penalty for unauthorized performance. (a) Persons authorized to solemnize marriages in this state include (1) all judges and retired judges, either elected or appointed, including federal judges and judges of other states who may legally join persons in marriage in their jurisdictions, (2) family support magistrates, family support referees, state referees and justices of the peace who are appointed in Connecticut, and (3) all ordained or licensed members of the clergy, belonging to this state or any other state. All marriages solemnized according to the forms and usages of any religious denomination in this state, including marriages witnessed by a duly constituted Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is, are valid. All marriages attempted to be celebrated by any other person are void.
(b) No public official legally authorized to issue marriage licenses may join persons in marriage under authority of a license issued by himself, or his assistant or deputy; nor may any such assistant or deputy join persons in marriage under authority of a license issued by such public official.
(c) Any person violating any provision of this section shall be fined not more than fifty dollars.

The person who performs the Marriage ceremony must complete the certificate after performing the ceremony. It is their responsibility to return it to the Registrar of the Town where the ceremony occurred.
The town maintains the original license and sends certified copies to the State of Connecticut, and any town(s) of residence within Connecticut that are listed on the certificate for the parties involved. Once that occurs, you may purchase certified copies from either the town of occurrence or the town(s) of residence listed on the certificate.

Home Health services require a physician's order and are performed under the direct supervision of the ordering physician. If you are interested in receiving homecare services, you should contact your doctor to find out if your medical needs warrant home health care treatment. If your physician finds that you or your loved one would benefit from homecare services, a referral will be made by your physician to The OVNA. Once a physicians order has been received, an OVNA representative will make contact with the patient to schedule the start of services.

We apologize for any inconvenience. A prescription drug drop-off box has been set up in the main lobby of the Orange police Department headquarters located at 314 Lambert Road.
The box has been provided by the Bethany Orange Woodbridge Drug/Alcohol Action Committee and it is available 24 hours a day and seven days a week.
Any over-the-counter or prescription drugs can be brought to the department and dropped into the box.
Markers to block out personal info on any labels can be obtained from the service counters in the lobby.

The Zoning office is open Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
If the shed is 150 square feet or less, & under 10 feet in height, you do not need a Zoning permit or a Building permit. The setbacks are 10 feet from the side & rear property lines; and 75 feet from the street.
If the shed is 150 square feet and under 200 square feet, it requires a Zoning Permit but not a Building permit. The setbacks are 50 feet to the rear property line, 25 feet to each side property line and 60 feet from the street.
If the shed is 200 square feet to 300 square feet, and 10 to 15 feet in height, you need a Zoning permit and a Building permit. The setbacks are 50 feet to the rear property line, 25 feet to each side property line, and 60 feet from the street.
Sheds cannot exceed 15 feet in height.
The minimum lot size required is 60,000 square feet.
You need at least one acre to have a horse.
The Records Division distributes reports. They are open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday (closed weekends and holidays.) Reports are $0.50 per page. A typical accident report is 2 to 3 pages. We do not fax or email any police records. Parking tag payments can be made via mail or in person at the Records Division office at Police Headquarters. Please be advised that the Orange Town Ordinances require that payment be made within 48 hours, or the fines double.
Failure to pay parking fines can result in arrest. Payment must be made with cash or check. Credit Cards are not accepted.
The Records Division provides fingerprinting services for Orange Town residents, or people being hired by the Town of Orange. There is a $5 per card charge for this service. Fee is waived for Town of Orange employees.
Fingerprinting is done by appointment only, as scheduling allows. You must provide your own fingerprint cards. Please call 203-891-2134 to schedule your appointment.
The Records Division can check the criminal history files of our police department when provided with a name and date of birth. Please be advised that we can only check our own department files. An entire statewide record check can be obtained through the Connecticut State Police.

The police are charged with enforcing the laws. Officers respond to both complaints from the community and to their own observations of violations.
Going "just a little" over the speed limit or going through that red light late at night can have disastrous results. Motor vehicle accidents result in significant amounts of property damage and personal injuries each year. We care about you and would like to try to reduce those losses.
As you should expect the officer to be courteous, he or she appreciates your cooperation as well. You should remain in your vehicle and wait for the officer. Please turn down your radio and don't reach around for your paperwork. This only causes concern for the officer that you may be hiding something or reaching for a weapon.
Remember the officer has no idea who he/she is about to speak with. You should never exit your vehicle unless the officer requests that you do so. You know you are just on your way home from the supermarket, the officer does not.
Today's criminal does not have a certain "look." He or she can look like "the person next door" and the officer has no way of knowing if he/she is stopping a corporation executive officer late for a meeting, a parent picking up a sick child from school, or "the person next door" who just robbed a local bank.
Yes. However we would encourage your cooperation as it often helps the officer to better investigate your report. You know your neighborhood better than anyone.
If you see something that just does not seem right, we encourage you to trust your instincts and call the police department. If you absolutely do not wish to leave your name an officer will still investigate your call.
Everyone issued a traffic ticket or charged with a crime has the opportunity to plead not guilty and provide their explanation to the court. You can request a court date where you or your attorney will have the opportunity to state your case. The court makes the final decision as to guilt or innocence.
You may also choose to pay any state fine imposed. For applicable violations there are instructions on the reverse side of the ticket both on how to plead not guilty and obtain a court date or how to mail in the state fine.

Residential recycling pick-up is weekly, on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. See map for which streets are on which day. Pick up may be early in the day so put your bin out the night before if desired. Face the bin towards the street as you see your neighbors have it.Holidays: When a holiday falls on your pickup day, your pickup will be on the next day, and the rest of the week will be a day later. If needed, Friday pick up will be on Saturday. Monday holidays will not impact the pick up schedules for the week.Snow: If there is a large snowstorm where roads are impacted so the recycling trucks can’t get through, the recycling schedule will get bumped by a day, as described for holidays above.Scheduling changes will be posted on Facebook as possible.

Effective January 1, 2011 all electronic items, known as e-waste, will not be allowed in the hopper at the Orange Transfer Station according to a new state statute.A sign is displayed to direct you to a trailer for disposal.

All organization, school, and commercial site recyclables are not allowed at curbside. Arrangements for their proper disposal must be handled by private haulers.
Effective October 1, 2009, the Bottle Bill was expanded to include non-carbonated water up to 3 liters in size with a 5-cent redemption value. Redeem at the local store that sold the container.
